In 2009, 3.6 million LED LCD TVs were sold and Samsung Electronics led the market by comprising 68.3% market share. Samsung Electronics had shown consistent LED LCD TV product development and marketing strategy based on its edge-type backlighting technology from the first quarter of 2009. Based on this consistency, Samsung Electronics was able to represent seven out of 10 LED LCD TVs in terms of global demand.

In 2010, LED LCD TV market size is expected to be 32 million units that will represent 19% of all LCD TVs to open accelerated LED LCD TV era. Based on major Set makers' LED LCD TV sales plan for 2010, Samsung Electronics plans to sell over 10 million LED LCD TVs representing 29% of all 35M LCD TVs in company's lineup.
LG Electronics plans to sell 5 to 7 million LED LCD TVs among its 23 to 25 million LCD TVs and Sony plans to sell 5 to 7 million LED LCD TVs among its 22 to 25 million LCD TVs. Sharp plans to sell 6 million LED LCD TVs among its 12 million LCD TVs. From the second half of 2009, many Set and Panel makers not only enhanced their LED LCD TV lineup but they are also focusing on securing cost competitiveness through enhancing supply chain between companies.
