The German semiconductor market is expected to recover this year and grow by 13% to EUR 8 billion. Dr. Ulrich Schaefer, Chairman of the Semiconductor Components Group at the ZVEI-Fachverband Electronic Components and Systems, said the growth will be supported by the 15% turnover in discrete elements, optoelectronic semiconductors and sensors/actuators, as well as the 12% growth in the IC segment.
Last year, Germany's semiconductor market dropped 24.6% to less than EUR 7 billion. Schaefer attributes this to the demand decline in the automotive, as well as the industrial segments, mainly due to the global economic recession. On dollar basis, the drop in sales amounted was approximately 30%.
