Wednesday, May 26, 2010 | Databeans Inc.

Databeans Inc. has released its 2010 Medical Semiconductors report and projects that total medical electronics revenue will reach $128.6 billion in sales. The home segment of this market continues to grow, with revenue expecting to reach over $16 billion as a result of increased home patient care in an effort to reduce costs of clinical and hospital treatments.

The total medical semiconductor market is expected to see healthy growth this year from all three market segments. Databeans classifies clinical, imaging and home. Total sales are expected to reach nearly $3 billion, with $1.8 billion in clinical, $355 million in imaging and over $728 million from home medical applications.

The home market segment volume is a direct result of growing consumer awareness of health and wellness products and the availability of these at more retail outlets. With increasing technology in the medical market so to comes the ability to treat and monitor conditions at home. Products such as blood pressure monitors, heart rate monitors and glucose meters are becoming more prevalent in the home. Because of this the home medical segment is slated to grow by 9% over the next five years.

Advancements in the medical field are not limited to the home market however. The clinical and imaging market segments have also seen solid growth. These two segments make up close to 75% of the total medical market and also have seen technological advancements including smaller and more portable medical electronics such as portable ultrasound devices and digital electrocardiographs. With these advancements and improvements in all three segments, the total medical semiconductor market will see a growth of 10% over the next five years.
